Jiufen Old Street (九份老街) You Need to Visit This Amazing Place in Taiwan!

Jiufen is a mountain town in northeastern Taiwan, east of Taipei, it is close to Keelung (基隆).  It's known for the narrow alleyways of its old town, packed with teahouses, street-food shacks and souvenir shops.

Jiufen is a steep uphill climb filled with interesting snacks, eateries, and accessories. Although climbing up and going down the stairs would make anyone feel wobbly, the energy is simply infectious!

Sadly, it was too overly crowded with tourist to be enjoyable the time we got there. It was difficult to look through shops and check out kiosks as the person behind you is rushing (and pushing) to move towards his destination. So don't come here during weekends or holidays.

We ate Taiwanese meat ball soup (gong wan) - 貢丸湯. Then we went to have Ai-Yu 愛玉 (jelly drink with lemon/passion fruit).  We also enjoyed eating the ice cream sprinkled with shaved caramelized peanut brittle and wrapped with Taiwanese crepe.

After eating, we went to a teahouse that offer a fine selection of teas and a great scenic mountain view. It is so relaxing, while enjoying a cup of hot tea.

If you want to buy some souvenir for you and your love ones, i recommend you to buy the lantern with lights, it is pretty cool to hang on your bag or mobile phone.

How to get there?
A convenient way to visit Jiufen  is to take a shuttle bus from Ximen, leaving in the morning and returning before dinner.

By Train
From Taipei Main Station (台北車站), take the train north to Ruifang Station. After exiting the station and facing the Wellcome supermarket, take a left and walk 200 metres down Mingdeng Road. Next to the police station is a bus station (named Local Residents Plaza, 區民廣場) with routes 827 and 788 heading toward Jiufen. Please note that the bus stop next to the police station heads east toward Jiufen, and the bus stop across from the police station heads west toward Taipei. Route 825 provides weekend service only. From here, the bus trip takes roughly 15 minutes, and the fare is NT$15.
